Experience
2000 - Present Consultant
1999 - 2000 General Motors Global Alternative Propulsion Center, Research and Development, Supervisor Fuel Processing Development
Establish, organize, and supervise Simulation and Modeling Group to support processing subsystem of fuel cell program. Evaluate alternative applications of fuel cell technology. Developed transient and steady state system models for multiple generations of fuel processor designs.
1990 - 1999 MERCK & CO., Inc., Manufacturing and Process Engineering Divisions, Technical Operations Fellow
Technical support to Chemical Engineering Research and Development: process simulation/solvent recovery systems, chemical kinetics/mixing, simulation and design of environmental equipment to ensure compliance with EPA regulations, computer control system design, equipment design and sizing. Provide consultation in the design of pilot plants, distillation systems, chemical reactors, and their related computer control systems. Applied numerical methods and developed mathematical computer applications.
1979 - 1990 Englehard Corporation
Research Associate, Environmental Catalyst Group:
Design and development of novel precious metal catalysts for the abatement of auto exhaust pollutants (NOX, CO, hydrocarbons) and novel auto exhaust catalytic converters. Developed an improved catalyst with 20-50% reduction of precious metal without loss of performance. Designed computer controlled pilot plant scale experimental rig to study aging, poisoning, and chemical kinetics of in-house catalyst. Developed a highly compact and cost effective catalytic converter to replace the conventional monolithic design.
Research Section Head, Ammonia Oxidation/Catalytic Combustion.
Developed company's proprietary technology for platinum recovery in ammonia oxidation reactors. Process in use worldwide. Co-inventor of an electrochemical method of treating oxidation gauze to give improved performance. Conducted a program in high temperature catalytic combustion of methane with low Nox emission for Japanese utilities. Developed a high temperature combustion catalyst with Westinghouse Power Group.
Research Engineer and Senior Research Engineer, Fuel Cell Technology
Conceived, designed, and experimentally tested a hydrogen generator for methanol reforming. Met stringent size and weight design constraints. The hydrogen generator was integrated in a commercial 5 KW fuel cell unit. Second generation reformer achieving 50% reduction in size developed for fuel cell powered forklift truck.
