Experience
Providing expert consultation and guidance for solving pesticide and other food safety issues from both national and international perspectives. Currently working with a major food exporters association to solve a chronic pesticide issue. Also conducting an industry survey for a Washington consulting firm.
While working with FDA, was recognized as an authority on food regulations involving pesticide residues, food additives, chemical contaminants (e.g., radiation, dioxins, aflatoxins, PCBs), and other potentially harmful substances. Served as FDA's focal point on the science, technical, legal and policy aspects of food safety issues, coordinating the agenecy's actions with other federal agencies (e.g., U.S. Dept. of Agriculture), State agencies, foreign governments, and industry.
Worked as an FDA liaison official with the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) on pesticide regulatory matters. As a result of this responsibility, gained excellent knowledge of EPA's pesticide polices and laws (FIFRA and FFDCA) and involved managers and staff
Acting as FDA's primary or secondary witness on public health problems involving pesticides, industrial chemicals (e.g., PCBs, PBBs) mycotoxins, radionuclides and dioxins, testified before numerous U.S. Congress committee hearings.
Represented FDA on the U.S. Delegation to the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues (CCPR), which has the responsibility for developing internationally acceptable pesticide tolerances for foods. Served as chairman of the Committee's Working Group on Regulatory Principles and as U.S. representative on other Codex working groups. Also was the U.S. delegate for the CCPR sessions held in the Netherlands and Cuba on behalf of all U.S. regulatory agencies on various pesticide and food related issues.

Author and co-author of numerous FDA regulation initiatives involving aflatoxins, action levels, PCBs, policy statements on food contaminants, procedural regulations for controlling contaminants in food, and designing and preparing FDA's recall regulations.
