Metallurgical Engineer Consultant and Expert on Precision Machining, Dimensional Inspection and Quality Control (1132)
Expertise
General Expertise:
Manufacturing and engineering expert for precision machining, dimensional inspection, quality control and assurance, and engineering drawing creation and interpretation.
Precision machining dimensional inspection capabilities including CMMS, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.
Expert in metal heat treating, metal forming, metal drawing and related hot and cold systems.
Metallography, solid modeling (solid works, Pro/E & Inventor).
Detailed Expertise:
Metal Forming - Developed deep drawing processes for tantalum, tantalum alloys, platinum, platinum alloys, tungsten-rhenium alloy, iridium alloy, super alloys, mild steels, stainless steels.
Heat Treating - Conventional heat treat furnaces for heat treatable steels and aluminum. Inert gas, vacuum, and high temperature vacuum furnaces for use with precipitation hardening alloys, refractory metals and alloys, the precious metals, and glass and glass ceramic headers.
Precision Machining – All parts were smaller than a hockey puck, with tolerances on the order of 0.001 inch. Most commonly worked with 304 stainless steel, Inconel alloys or a precipitation hardening alloy, but also other metals and alloys.
Coordinate Measuring Machines: Introduced and implemented the use of CMM for the inspection of piece parts in production environment.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing - ANSI 14.5M standard for the manufacturing process and enhancing the inspection process
Computer Literacy - 2D AutoCAD, Pro/DESKTOP Express 2001 for 3D solid modeling and 2D engineering drawings.
Licensed Professional Engineer
Experience
Fusite, Division of Emerson Electric Co.
Designed fixtures for the fusing, cleaning and gold plating of glass to metal seals, as well as, the fusing, inspection, cleaning and gold plating of development parts.
Proficiency in the use of DESKTOP Express 2001, a 3D Solid Modeling CAD software based on Pro/ENGINEER.
Cincinnati Machine (formerly a division of Cincinnati Milacron)
Contract work
Intertek Testing Services
Part time basis trained Designated Supplier Quality Representatives for General Electric Aircraft Engines. GE Suppliers' employees released their product on behalf of GE to GE.
Cincinnati Milacron, Inc.
Independent contractor, performed research, development and failure analysis for all of their products.
Thaler Machine Company
CMM operator/inspector and as "Quality Manager"
Wrote ISO 9002/QS-9000 Quality Manual and Operating Procedures.
HTG Aerobraze
Metallographer inspected and approved aircraft engine part coatings, heat treating, welding, and brazing. Also did general consulting.
Became certified for Level I and Level II coatings evaluation through Metcut Research Associates, Inc.
Gayston Corporation
Director of Quality Assurance
Managed the Quality Department consisting of a Metrology Manager, three Gage Calibrators, an Inspection Manager with ten inspectors, and the SPC Manager with six operators.
EG&G Mound Applied Technologies (operated by Monsanto Research Corporation for Department of Energy
Managed a 33 person precision machine shop with dual roles as Parts Machining Manager and Manufacturing Technologist. Shop consisted of three Process Engineers, three Supervisors, a Data Clerk/Secretary, three CMM Programmer/Operators, a CNC Programmer, three Deburrers, and 19 Machinists. ~Shop manufactured precision piece parts, smaller than a hockey puck, from stainless steels, nickel alloys, precipitation hardening alloys and sometimes aluminum and brass. Seventy-five percent of equipment was either NC or CNC, with 5 and 6 axes lathes and mills. Post, wire, and small-[hole EDM machines were also used. A group of five CNC/CMM machines, consisting of two high precision and three shop floor machines, comprised the inspection capability to measure anything made.
