In 1966 approached General Electric about the use of NAFION in fuel cells and scaled up production to provide material to GE%u2019s for their manufacture of fuel cells for the space program.
Developed fabric reinforced NAFION.
Scaled up monomer synthesis and polymer fabrication to provide material for commercial tests.
Demonstrated the concept of a highly selective barrier layer to improve membrane selectivity.
Assisted engineering in developing pilot plant and full scale commercial processes for producing NAFION.
Supported the DuPont legal defense against hostile patent activities.

Research Chemist

Worked to develop the chemistry involved in the synthesis of adipic acid from cyclohexanol / cyclohexanone and methyl methacrylate (MMA) from acetone cyanhydrine.
Identified 1,3 acetone disulfonic acid as a major biproduct of the MMA synthesis. Suggested possible applications for this compound.
